The Erie Express will head into Cleveland, Ohio this Saturday to face off against the Cleveland Patriots. The Express bring an 8-1 record into the contest against the 3-3 Patriots. Erie has won 5 in a row after suffering their only loss of the season to the South Buffalo Celtics (55-19). Erie currently sits in second place of the PAFL Stars Red Division behind the #1 South Buffalo Celtics. In order for the Express to take over the division lead they must win this week then defeat the Celtics by 37 or more points in the final week of the regular season. The top 7 teams from each division (Stars and Stripes) get invited to play in the playoffs. As of this week Erie sits at #4 and would host the #5 WPA Wildcatz in the first round. This is all subject to change as there are 2 weeks remaining in the PAFL Schedule.
Rookie QB Chance Anzivine needs 85 yards against the Patriots to take over the single season passing mark set last year by DJ Barney. Barney has made the transition to WR this season and is having a productive year there as well. Anzivine is 72-151 for 1212 yds 16 TDs and 7pics. His favorite target has been Javon Rowan who has hauled in 18 catches for a team best 500yds and 9 TDs. RB Allen Jones needs 51 yards to surpass the mark set in 2012 by former PITT RB Jawan Walker. Jones is currently the PAFL League leader in rushing yards at 391 but has rushed for 1106 yards and 13 TDs on the season. “These young men (Anzivine and Jones) have been leaders in their first year with us. They do not talk they simply play and play well. We are very pleased with the way they conduct themselves on and off the field and are happy to see them in a position to break these records.”-Director of Operations Paul Pennington
Defensively the Express will be missing a few key players for the Patriots game. DBs Dwaon Woodard and Peter Hamilton, LB Tony D’Albora (game time decision). The Express offense should be there full force. Serge Augustin leads the PAFL in sacks with 8 while LB Mike McKinnon leads the PAFL in tackles with 31.
Kickoff is set for 4:30 with LIVE updates via Twitter (ExpressErie) and Facebook (Erie Express Football).
